History

In 1927, Egidio Zambano, an immigrant from Ragogna, Italy, established Zambano & Sons with his three sons, Charles, Quinto and Anson. The business focused on concrete, brick laying, bridge building.

After Edgidio's untimely death, Charlie Zambano, the eldest son, would run the operation for the next fifty years.

About Charlie Zambano

Charlie Zambano, aka “Papa”, was a master of his craft, and had a true love for the work he did. To watch him was to see a man work without distraction, to create with love and passion, to produce a product of the highest quality, and to accept nothing less.

But, more than anything, Charlie was a man of humility, kindness and honesty. Through his own actions, he taught the people around him that a man of great strength and self-confidence has no reason to look down upon another man. He never saw himself as greater than others; he saw all people as equals.

Charlie respected people, not for what they did or how much they had, but for who they were: people. He respected young and old, rich and poor. And, because of this, he had an undying curiosity of the world, realizing that everyone had something to give and to teach, and always knowing that there was more to learn.

Even as an old man, he was strong and healthy. At the age of 86 he was seen climbing a ladder with an 80-pound bag of cement on his shoulder. People would always tell him that he was going to live to be a hundred. He would reply that, no, he just wanted to see the year 2000. At the age of 91, Charlie passed away on January 2, 2000.
